As a Content Producer for Skillshare, you will work closely with VIP teachers and brand partners to produce insightful video content that educates, inspires, and empowers the Skillshare community.
This exciting role is a crucial part of our in-house NYC content team. Teachers on Skillshare today include top thought leaders, institutions, and companies — and you’ll be their 1-on-1 guide for planning, developing, and producing an innovative, beautiful, and engaging online class.
A successful candidate will have a diverse set of skills in editorial, communication, content marketing, media/digital content, relationship management, and brand strategy — as well as passion for Skillshare’s mission and utmost passion for excellence. Prior experience in video or education is not required.
This role reports directly to our Director of Content & Partnerships. It’s a fantastic opportunity for a growth-minded, creative individual.
What you’ll work on
You’ll work on a range of high-profile content projects in Creative & Business (e.g. graphic design, illustration, photography, leadership, marketing, entrepreneurship). You’ll serve as a true creative content lead, project manager, and evangelist for your classes, always with the goal of creating the best learning experience for Skillshare students. Key responsibilities include:
— Research, Teacher Collaboration, & Content Strategy: Scope topics and synthesize teacher insights to craft lessons that will resonate with key audiences.
— Content Development: Write detailed class plans and/or scripts. Collaborate with Film team on graphic treatments. Lead internal creative reviews and incorporate feedback. Spec effective, beautiful assets to effectively communicate concepts.
— Lead Film Shoots: Coach teachers to build on-camera confidence and capture effective teaching.
— Review Video & Resources: Give detailed feedback to video editor(s), coordinate sign-off with internal and external stakeholders, and develop class resources.
— Launch Class: Write marketing copy, approve design assets, coordinate marketing plan with Partnerships & Marketing, and seed community management.
What you’ll need to be successful (and why)
You know good from bad content. You are a smart researcher, wide reader, and superior communicator who can convey concepts and stories in a way that feels urgent, relevant, creative, and intelligent. Backgrounds with a strong fit include editorial, publishing, content marketing, advertising, and/or design.
You are bursting with creativity and curiosity. You are solutions-obsessed but also know how to think outside the box. You understand how creatives think, and you know how to bring out their best. A history of creative side projects and/or creative adaptability means you can hit the ground running.
You know how to craft content with a purpose. This is a mid-level role. Successful candidates will understand the strategic value of the projects they work on (e.g. user engagement, subscriber growth) and successfully meet and exceed content KPIs.
You love to lead projects, but also love to collaborate. Our in-house content team is incredibly collaborative, which helps us move fast while maintaining quality. You’ll get energy from working with a strong team of A-players, while also loving the ownership that comes from leading your projects. Project management is a breeze for you.
You understand the nuances of working with talent. You have the utmost professionalism and diplomacy when working with brands and high-level talent. You have client-facing experience and/or a track record working with brands. You can represent the mission of Skillshare in the world.
Why you want this job
The long-term opportunity. Previous content producers have increasingly taken on new responsibilities in management, creative production (e.g. social video, short documentaries, user stories), and VIP partnerships. We are looking for someone eager to build on existing best practices and grow with Skillshare.
Our mission and vision. We recognize that talent is equally distributed, but education and opportunity are not. You will join a team that will give millions of people across the globe access to both.
The challenge. You will never, ever be bored. You will work with a wide range of talent, on a wide range of topics, for a wide range of audiences. You will become an expert in many different subjects and be the “coach” that always brings out everyone’s best.
The team. Colleagues are often the number one factor in job satisfaction and professional development. You will work with a successful team that continually hires top talent and has the pattern recognition to do it again as the company grows.
This role is full-time and based in NYC.
